I know I gripe a lot about the weather, and maybe I shouldn’t because I live in the “Sunshine State” and should be thankful I’m not buried in snow, forced to dig out my frozen car just to skid around town in the winter… BUT MY GOD! It’s been so hot this year! Nearly 90° as we dip our toes into March! Boooo! Boo to you, winter! I want my money back.
Florida on Fire
In other fire news, “The Senator” burned down.
The 118-foot-tall cypress tree in Longwood, Florida, is estimated to be 3,500 years old, which made it the world’s fifth oldest tree. It burned from the inside out, like a chimney. And then it collapsed. Really sad.
Elizabeth, I hope you will write something poignant and poetic about a childhood field trip to this historic tree.

John Vanderslice - “Me and My 424”
A few years back on April 24, I got an out-of-the-blue salary raise. It was awesome. It was well-deserved. And I was ecstatic. That night, my great aunt Dorothy passed away. As happy as I had been, I was equally saddened. This song reminds me of that up-and-down day.
Vanderslice, a Gainesville native, is touring Florida this weekend. I hope to catch him at The Social on Sunday.
